Course Overview
This course is designed to provide application-based knowledge of all aspects of the Outside Plant (OSP) installation process. During this course, students will apply what they have learned through a series of design exercises such as route design, selecting cables to be housed in the pathways and spaces, identifying splice configurations based on proposed route, planning new OSP cable plant and developing a preliminary budget for the project.
This course is designed as a hands-on course, providing an engaging and active learning experience by using real-world scenarios to design underground, direct-buried and aerial plants. This course will greatly benefit individuals who want to make OSP engineering or design their profession; individuals charged with the maintenance of OSP facilities; OSP designers looking for a refresher or wanting to learn new techniques; individuals involved in the construction of an OSP system; and individuals planning to sit for the OSP Designer exam.
Why you should attend?
- Learn design issues related to underground, direct-buried and aerial cable plant.
- Gain an understanding of common elements to all Outside Plant projects.
- Learn to select industry-recognized cables for your cabling system, codes and standards, permits, and right of way requirement
- Material Requirements
- An electronic or hard copy of the Outside Plant Design Reference Manual (OSPDRM).The manual is not included in the course fee.
- Students are also required to bring an internet capable (i.e., laptop, tablet, smart phone) device to class each day.
Target Audience
This course is ideal for:
- Current RCDDs looking to gain specialized information regarding outside plant design
- Individuals preparing for the OSP Designer Exam
- Technicians looking to advance in their career
Course Prerequisites
There are no prerequisites, but BICSI recommends the completion of the online OSP 101: Introduction to Outside Plant Design and the ICT Fundamentals Design program prior to attending this class.
BICSI strongly recommends that students read the Outside Plant Design Reference Manual (OSPDRM), 6th edition, prior to attending this class along with any errata sheets or updates.
